Reminder: Progress Reports Issued Through Skyward Today!
Our new social worker is Mrs. Brand-Lesley! Mrs. Brand-Lesley is a former English teacher at both LaPorte High School and South Bend Riley High School. We are currently sharing Mrs. Brand-Lesley with Kouts - she will be at WT Monday, Wednesday, and every other Friday. She can provide support with anxiety, depression, loss, peer conflict, and resource connection, among many other things.
Welcome, Mrs. Brand-Lesley!
It's a jungle at Washington!
One more day until we have reached the middle of the grading period!
Today, we welcome Mr. Kessler! Mr. Kessler will be teaching 6-9th grade PE and one class of advanced physical conditioning. Mr. Kessler comes to us from Griffith High School where he taught similar classes and served as offensive line coach for the football team. He is a former college football player who is passionate about weight lifting and fitness.
Welcome to WT, Mr. Kessler!
Student Athletic Advisory Committee Student - Athletes of the Week
The Student Athletic Advisory Committee is bringing back the Athlete of the Week program and starting off strong by recognizing two outstanding Senator student-athletes. Senior Brody Mears was nominated for his first place performance at last week’s Cross Country PCC round robin meet, and his overall positive mental attitude and leadership.
Freshman Mackenzie Anderson was nominated for her performance in soccer; she shines both as a goalkeeper and on the field. In goal, she's quick and fearless, stopping shots with impressive agility. When she's out on the field, her passing and competitiveness make her stand out. Her energy and skill make her a great teammate, and she motivates everyone around her to play their best. Congratulations to these amazing athletes.

Mrs. Mateer is our next new staff member to introduce! Mrs. Mateer joins us after serving as the Morgan Township athletic director for many years. Her organization, communication, and attention to detail have already proven an asset in the athletic department. When she is not at school (which is rare!) you will find her, her husband, and dog spending time in their new camper.
Welcome, Mrs. Mateer!
WTMHS Progress Reports (Mid-Term) will be issued through Skyward on Friday, September 13th. Parents/Guardians--please check Skyward on Friday for mid-First Quarter grades. First Quarter grading period ends on Friday, October 11.
Washington Township Middle-High School remember those who lost their lives during the tragic events of 9-11.
Congratulations to Jody Stump and Willy Wilks for establishing the inaugural course records for the Washington Township Middle School Cross Country Invitational.
Ms. Calvert
Our new German teacher is Ms. Calvert! Ms. Calvert will be teaching three levels of German this year, as well as an 8th grade exploratory German class. On top of that, Ms. Calvert will be providing support for English language learners and their teachers across East Porter County Schools. Ms. Calvert has taught at Kouts for the past 13 years, becoming the 2nd teacher to ditch the yellow in favor of Senator red.
Willkommen, Frau Calvert!

Our middle school cross country team hosted the first annual Senator Invite on their home course. Both boys and girls came in 1st place against St. Paul and Wheeler. The top 10 finishers were Annabelle Sexton, Wimberly Scott, Caroline Steele, Porter Wilks, Anthony Hreha, Jackson Reeder, and Kai Suga. Willy Wilks and Jody Stump won their races and set new course records. They are all looking forward to the Rensselaer invite on Saturday.
Goal achieved.
As you make your way West of the school you may have noticed the new Net System that rises above the Girls and Boys Soccer Field. This project demonstrates the great community support that we are fortunate to have in Washington Township. With the help of the Gilbert Family ( Scott, Aimee, Owen), Matt Woods and ModernEdge, Jeremy Reeder and Reeder’s Auto, Andrew Brinkley and Circle R, Ken Kukler, Jim Fleming, Julie and Lucas Ferguson, Coach Fleming, Coach Swann and the administration in Mrs. Mateer and Mr. Fields we were able to coordinate all of these willing participants over several weekends to complete this project before the start of the 2024 Soccer season.
This is a great reflection on what can be done in support of our student athletes.
The Nutrition Classes worked on knife skills this week, and cooked a variety of different items.
Next on our list of introductions is Ms. Nelson! Ms. Nelson takes over for long-time Senator, Mrs. Jablonski, who retired at the end of last school year. She will be teaching primarily senior English, with a few sections of junior English. Ms. Nelson is in her third year of teaching, with her first two years of teaching occurring at sister school, Kouts.
Welcome to the red and black, Ms. Nelson!
