The United States Holocaust Museum in Washington DC provides guests with an eye witness account of the events of the Holocaust. Artifacts and videos allow visitors to step back in time and get a feel for life in the European Nations during the 1930s and 40s. This experience is thought provoking and emotional as you walk through the life of an individual impacted by the Holocaust and find if your person lived or died. Piles of shoes on display represent men, women and even children that were killed in concentrations camps as a result of the genocide. This is just one of the many experiences our seniors are being offered on this year's senior trip. If you are interested, stop by Mrs. Peres' room today for a packet.

Washington DC is home to many national memorials. One of the most notable is Arlington National Cemetery. It is the final resting place of President William Howard Taft and President John F Kennidy. Yesterday we paid tribute to all of the individuals that have served our country through military service, but Arlington National Cemetery is where we honor those that have made the ultimate sacrifice. For some families, closure after a conflict was never an option. Their loved one never came home and was listed as missing in action. A select few of these individuals have been given the honor of interment at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The Unknowns represent all unidentified service members who gave their lives for the United States. The elite 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment guards the Tomb continually, regardless of the weather. Each guard stands on duty for either an hour or a half of an hour depending on the time of year. The Tomb Guard marches exactly 21 steps down the black mat behind the Tomb, turns, faces east for 21 seconds, turns and faces north for 21 seconds, then takes 21 steps down the mat and repeats the process. Each step and pause is to represent the 21 gun salute given in honor of a fallen soldier. Not only will this year's senior class have the privilege of experiencing this Change of Guard ceremony, but a select few may take part in it by laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Washington DC is a place all Americans should visit. It provides a connection to the past and a way to respect and appreciate all those that have made our country what it is today. Seniors, if you are interested in participating in this year's senior trip, pick up a packet from Mrs. Peres today.

The Student Athletic Advisory Committee is recognizing volleyball senior Nia Jordan as Athlete of the Week. Nia is constantly pushing herself and persevering through her numerous shoulder injuries for her team. After tearing her shoulder before the first game against Marquette, Nia was hopeful and cheerful for her team, despite not being able to play. Facing Marquette again at the sectional game, instead of playing her normal position as a hitter, she played for her team in the back row to pass. Nia was able to do this because she is a very valuable player who can confidently be positioned anywhere on the floor. Through any obstacle Nia stays positive and always puts her team above herself, making her the true leader she is.

The boys soccer team faced off against Griffith last night for senior night in an unforgettable game. Griffith scored first, but Liam Schott equalized by lobbing their goalie from distance. The Senators went into halftime down 2-1, and were down 3-1 with 37 minutes left to play. Later, Jason Bunag danced inside before finding the back of the net, making the score 3-2. With under 10 minutes to go, Lucas Ferguson, Owen Gilbert, and Liam Schott created enough chaos from a corner kick to force an own goal, and the score was somehow tied up at 3-3. Then, to complete the comeback, senior Owen Gilbert chased down a long ball, stole the ball from a defender, and scored to make it 4-3 Senators with just 1 minute left to play. These boys made magic happen on the field last night. Congratulations to the team, especially to our seniors. Thank you to all of those who came out in support last night.
The Senators play again tonight at Westville with kickoff at 4:30.
