Last Friday, WTMHS held a convocation involving Champions Together, Champions Together is a collaborative partnership between the Indiana High School Athletic Association and Special Olympics Indiana that promotes servant leadership among student athletes while changing their lives as well as the lives of those with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics International is supporting Champions Together as a model program to activate schools through “Project Unify” which also has the endorsement of the National Federation of High Schools. WTHS is in the process of establishing a "Unified Team" which would be able to compete against other schools in Indiana in sports such as flag football, basketball, and track and field. The interactive convocation, which included host Craig Tornquist and Champions Together Consultant Brian Avery. Posted on WT Facebook are two videos from the convocation one is a contest involving WT students tying their shoes with oven mits (mimicking someone with cerebral palsy) and a dance contest. Very enjoyable and enlightening convocation. Many thanks to Craig Tornquist, Brian Avery and to Mr. Fields for bringing Champions Together to WT. For more information on Unified Teams:
